This Chocolate Quinoa Smoothie is yet another wonderful way to use cooked quinoa! It adds some health protein to this yummy chocolate smoothie to keep the nutrition coming. Ounce for ounce, agave nectar tastes twice... as sweet as sugar, which makes it a great thing to use for sweetening drinks. If you’re not familiar with using it, I’d add just half the agave nectar, buzz the drink, then taste it before adding more, a tablespoon at a time.
Combine the quinoa, cocoa powder, agave, ice and almond milk in the bowl of a blender.
Blend until the smoothie is smooth and the ingredients are combined.
Chef Tips
Don’t be tempted to use drinking chocolate (hot chocolate mix) for this smoothie. It’s the dark richness of unsweetened cocoa powder that gives it its delicious taste.
If you don’t have agave nectar, you can sweeten this with sugar but you’ll need to add more than the ¼ cup in the recipe. As mentioned, agave tastes twice as sweet as sugar, so add ¼ cup of sugar, buzz, taste and adjust the amount a tablespoon at a time until it tastes good to you.
