Delicious and Safe! Tasty Plates For A Neutropenic Diet
The best thing you can do if you get put on a neutropenic diet is to get cooking. I know. I’ve been through it, and it was cooking easy, tasty food that kept me well-nourished and happy throughout. Despite the long list of no, there’s a lot you can eat if you take control of your food from the get-go, something that’s not possible if you rely on... restaurants and pre-prepared foods. It’s important to handle your food correctly at home – we’ve some tips here– and although meat, fish and eggs need to be well done, you don’t have to cook veggies until they’re mush. Blanching for 3 minutes makes veggies safe, and when a recipe calls for a sprinkling of fresh herbs at the end, with soups they can be added for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, or if they’re to flavor simple steamed veggies or a cooked veggie salad, quickly sauté them for 2 minutes in a little hot olive oil or broth before adding. You’ll get the flavor and not the microbes. In the end, I think the best thing about the food we’ve chosen here is that it’s not sickroom food to be eaten in isolation. Everything we’ve picked is delicious and can be enjoyed by anyone, anytime whether neutropenic or not, so get together and eat it with friends and family. Enjoy!
